Neurological Surgery
Dr. Dacey is the Henry G. and Edith R. Schwartz Professor and Chairman of the department of Neurological Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his doctorate degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He also served as a general surgery and neurosurgery resident at the University of Virginia and was an American College of Surgeons Schering Scholar during his residency. Following his post-graduate training Dr. Dacey became an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. He subsequently became Professor and Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Dacey has an active general practice of neurosurgery and a special interest in cerebrovascular neurosurgery, the surgery of cerebral aneurysm and vascular malformations. His research activities have concentrated primarily on the area of the physiology of intracerebral microcirculation, and he was awarded a Clinician Investigator Development award by the National Institute of Health. Dr. Dacey also has a patent for the Methods of, and Materials for, Treating Vascular Defects with Magnetically Controllable Hydrogels. Dr. Dacey currently is the Secretary of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and was President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is a member of a number of medical associations and is the consultant neurosurgeon for many professional teams.
